Sedimentation

Sedimentation is a seperation process. A physical water treatment method called sedimentation removes suspended particulates from water. This is a result of their movement through the fluid in reaction to forces acting on them, which may be brought on by electromagnetism, centrifugal acceleration, or gravity.
Sedimentation in the still water of tanks can naturally remove solid particles entrained by the turbulence of running water. Ponds designed to remove entrained materials by sedimentation are known as settling basins or tanks. Clarifiers are vessels designed with mechanical equipment to continuously remove the sediments that sedimentation deposits.
